Lee-Enfield SMLE Question

#1

Post by von thoma » 30 Sep 2018, 03:41

Do you know reasons, why did British Army changes Lee-Enfield No.1 to Lee-Enfield No.4, during WWII ?
After all, both have same .303 caliber, and the same bolt action system.
What is the improvement ?

Thank for your answers

Also Sight was moved back on the gun onto the receiver giving a longer sight radius, heavier barrel, making somewhat marginally better rifle. Sights and barrel weight really coming from the pattern 14.
