Re: What is this ship?
Former norwegian whaler “Gos VII” of Tønsberg,
renamed “HMS Calm” in 1941.
Not quite sure though, as the picture of the sailor with crossed arms has a cap band with “HMS Calypso”.

Re: What is this ship?
In this particular case, the name must be taken with a bit of skepticism. While the caption says "HMS Calm", the Object description under the picture indicates that the ship pictured is "A Minesweeper of the last war still on the same job. (Albury class, (i.e. Hunt class) name unknown)".
AThe dates may also be a little bit doubtful. If the ship specific tally bands are correct for Calypso and were still being worn in June 1940, the pictures are pre June 12, 1940 or are survivors of the Calypso sinking.

Imperial War Museum screwed the pooch?
Re: What is this ship?
Not sure if screwed the pooch is totally accurate (or totally inaccurate).
While the "headline" talks about the minesweeping whaler Calm, the object record for both the minesweeper underway and the quad Vickers .50s are clear that they are not pictures of HMS Calm-one is a WWI hunt class and the other are machineguns aboard "a minesweeper".
The other two are labeled as crew from HMS Calm and are named. However, the Calypso tally band is confusing. I just can't see someone wearing the pand some 2 1/2 years after Calypso was lost.

Re: What is this ship?
hi,
the two pictured ships are, of course, different, the upper picture showing a WW I Hunt, the lower right the ex-whaler Gos 7 as HMS Calm
greetings, the pb
