#1 Not all Irishmen fought the British Empire for Independence. The Irish problem concerns the presence of at least two groups of people in the Ireland, who have spent much of the last half millennia trying to kill each other.

#2 The linked post is by an Irish expat living in Australia whining about how the old country has gone to the dogs, some dog whistle racism, blaming multi culturalism and the EU.

#3 Modern Ireland chose to join the EU taking advantage of the single market to grow its economy. The common freedoms to work and live across EU members diffused much of the nationalisms. The Good Friday meant that it did not matter whether someone living in Northern Ireland considered themselves British or Irish. They could have either or both passports. The most likely outcome for Northern Ireland is unification with the South.

#4 There is a substantial Irish minority in mainland Great Britain - around 350k, (compared to 5 million in Eire). The Republic of Ireland is not considered to be a ‘foreign country’ for the purpose of UK laws, and Irish citizens are not considered to be ‘aliens’. Furthermore, Irish citizens are treated as if they have permanent immigration permission to remain in the UK from the date they take up ‘ordinary residence’ here.” This is not the same as the huge numbers of Americans and Australians who consider themselves as of Irish descent. Many Irish chose to serve Britain after 1922, many thousands serving in WW2.

There appear to be more 'Irishmen' living abroad than there were survivors of The Charge Of The Light Brigade!
The linked Australian post reminds me of the whiney 'ex-pats'(a euphemism for sensitive English people who by no stretch of the imagination see themselves as common immigrants)in Spain complaining because they still have to follow 'foreign' rules and regulations after they voted to leave The EU.

The article mentioned in the OP was a thinly disguised plea for Ireland to be returned to a culturally and racially homogenous nation state.

Ireland has never been racially and culturally homogenous. From time immemorial its population has included included visitors, migrants or invaders who might be called Norse, English or Scots - or from further afield. In 1990 I heard Nelson Mandela mentioned as "Phil Lynott's da." Globalisation and EU membership have brought new migrants. Is Ireland less Irish for being an EU member state. (Is Texas less Texan for being in the USA?)

Over 80% of the population of the Republic of Ireland is still white Irish

The balance of the remainder are shown in this chart

The whining epistle from the expat claims to be about the threat of "multi- culturalism to Irish identity. is a dog whistle appeal to racism against brown skinned or Muslim immigrants. This forum is dedicated to the history of counties that tried and failed to carve out empires based on racial and cultural superiority. Was it the OPs intention to be ironic?

Except for irish surnames based on Viking/Norse language...tis said the Viking left only three imprints on Irish History {Besides looting monestaries et al]
1}Founded Waterford and Dublin {Viking Kingdom under Ivar the Boneless)
2} irish foxes are descended from Viking dogs
3} Viking brewed the best Beer in Erin history....
