Cheers Richard. MacDonald certainly is an interesting fellow. I wonder what his second medal ribbon in the famous photo is? One is the DCM. If the second is a GSM would that mean he was with 2nd Camerons in Palestine pre-war? The campaigns he may have served in with the Camerons prior to his service in North Africa 1941-42 can only be France 1940 which did not have a campaign medal at this time. Given he was at least in his mid-twenties (I don't have is date of birth but to be a Sergeant in 1941 would argue three or more years with the regiment) in 1942 and was a regular he may have had pre-war service abroad

I am familiar with 'Mac' MacDonald .. He emigrated to Canada and served with my unit. I do not know all the details of his wartime service although I had several opportunities to discuss those activities with him. I am very pleased to see he is remembered. He deserved to be.
