The attached article discusses the Royal Navy’s creation and use of 3 deception ships to confuse the intelligence and reconnaissance sections of the Kriegsmarine and Luftwaffe about the location and operation plans of the Royal Navy.

The article was printed in the February 1946 edition of the USA professional military reference magazine ‘Military Review’.

The old Battleship Centurion (converted to a target ship pre-war) was converted early in WW2 to look like HMS Anson. She spent time in the Indian Ocean in 1942 before taking part in the Operation Vigorous convoy to Malta in June that year. She was finally sunk off Normandy as part of the Omaha Beach Gooseberry.
