Japanese Occupation in Singapore

Post by jontytan » 24 Feb 2023 04:05

A year ago I made a video, interviewing my late Grandfather who survived Sook Ching (ethnic cleansing) in Singapore at the hand of the Japanese. It is a year on now and would have been his 95th birthday this coming Monday. I am fairly new to learning about WWII in Asia, particularly Singapore and the Japanese Occupation, but keen to learn more. Here is the video, in case you are keen to watch and hear from my Grandpa. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzhlYoVyLuE

Hi Jontytan, thank you for sharing your video, I enjoyed watching it, especially your grandfathers interview. The Sook Ching atrocities get far too little coverage. I'd love too hear more about the Japanese Occupation of Singapore

Jontytan, I recently purchased a couple books from Singapore University Press, and am currently reading them. The University has a fair amount of information on this period, you should reach out to them. They may wish to view what you've done with a view to incorporating it into some of their work. If nothing else you can pick up some of their books.
Best Regards, OldBill

Thank you for sharing this, very well put together. I know your Grandpa is greatly missed.
Have you considered interviewing other survivors and/or visiting other historical sites?
