John/Juha-Pekka:

I am still lost.

By definition, this thread is to deal with "Other" Allies and the Neutral States.
By my reckoning, that would exclude the US, UK, China, Russia and maybe France.

That leaves us with India, where this unit apparently fought, and a passel of smaller Allied countries.

I have now Googled every possibility I can think of regarding the CBI Theater of Operations and have looked at hundreds of patches and come to nothing. I will try a few more possibilities and then surrender.

Bill

An U.S. mountaineer division. The 14th, maybe?

No, sorry. It is a Brigade sized unit, ad-hoc formed from four Indian Army Batalions ....

No. But the unit harassed the Japanese and INA lines of communications during the U-go offensive; so it can be considered a special unit of some sort, especially if one takes into account that local tribesmen fought along regular Indian units.

Note that the sign under the cattle head is a capital V ....
That really can help!

Hi

I believe that this is the badge for the Lushai Brigade.

Congratulations! It is the badge for the Lushai Brigade, indeed.
I do not know if it was actually worn.
Over to you.

Since this question was so difficult, please explain the "V-thing", "Cattle" and the Lushai Brigade! :?

I must admit it was a difficult question, but it is not a quizz for beginners with such formidable participants as The Edge, Bill Murray, Iron Machine and yourself (and many others I apologise for not mentionning!).
"V" means that the Lushai Brigade had to do with the so-called V force in India and Burma. The cattle is a mython, typical of the local domestic fauna.
Just Google "Lushai Brigade" and you will find details about the operational life of this non-conventional unit: that's what I have done myself after scanning my image from:

"Allied Special Forces insignia 1939-1948" by P. Taylor, Barnsley, Pen & Sword Books, 2000, p.112.

Best!

Thanks, iffig!
You can count me out of the formidable participants, I'm way behind!

Rather shaky argument - fellow member solved it with his first post.

He must be a formidable beginner or may be he is a old member writing under cover!
Anyway "beginner" had to be understood in a metaphorical way, meaning: "inept", "inefficient", this kind of stuff.....

I haven't used the word "beginer".

Last year I went into discussion with the 2-post member, only to find he is my favourite Serbian military expert (read a lot of his articles, especially artillery-related ones). :?

When I new member answers an easy question on our quizes, I'm usually uneasy about this (affaid he would not show up again to continue the quiz.) However, if he got a tough one, I'm full of hope.
