Yes, it is the Carleton Martello Tower, sited to defend the port of Saint John, on New Brunswick's south coast. The stone tower was built during the War of 1812, to guard against an American attack, with a couple of heavy guns on the roof. In their stead the "lousy" two-story concrete structure was built early in WW2, to serve as the OP and fire control centre for the three coast defence batteries in the area - which never fired a shot in anger. (Two of the 6-inch guns which defended the port had been removed from HMCS Niobe, one of the RCN's first two ships.) This was not with an American attack in mind any more, of course.

The tower is open to visitors in the summer. The two lower floors have been restored to their 19th century appearance, more or less. The WW2 part has not been fully restored but has some good displays and photos dating from the war. I grew up one block from the tower and never tire of visiting it.
