Next clue would have been a picture of Amartya Sen, the Nobel price in Economy, so that would have given Mad-Sen ....
By chance you found the correct answer before I had to go down such a slippery slope!

Slippery road can also reflect my officers path.
Originally an artillery officer he made the most of his career far out of GB and far from artillery's formal SOPs.

Before the war he served in Africa with success and later in the Middle-East.
In 1941 he was sent again to Africa, and in 1942 he was sent to Far-East.

Re: The official AHF Allied & Neutral Armies quiz thread
Thanks John.
Next question:
Burma, where Wingate became most famous, fell under Wavell in 1942. Also under Wavell was Ceylon, where there were six brigades of infantry (plus some Ceylonese battalions) in April 1942 when the Japanese looked like they might invade. These six brigades came from which four parts of the Commonwealth/Empire?

Okay, time for a hint: the six brigades were numbered 16, 16, 17, 21, 99 and 100.

Hello!
After this hint, it is only a matter of googling (except that the twin 16 th brigades are a bit of a mystery....) :
-16 th & 17 h Brigades : Australia.
- 21 th Brigade : Northern Rhodesia.
- 99 th & 100 th Bigades : India
The fourth part is unknown to me: maybe the British sent some troops too .....

Re: The official AHF Allied & Neutral Armies quiz thread
Hi iffig,
You got the four regions:
-full marks for Australian 16th and 17th brigades
-full marks for Indian 99th and 100th brigades
-the 21st brigade was partly from Northern Rhodesia. It was called the 21st East African Brigade and consisted of 21st Infantry Brigade HQ, 1st Battalion North Rodesian Regiment (1 NRR), 1st/2nd King's African Rifles (KAR), 1st/4th KAR, 53rd EA Field Battery, 54th Nyasaland Field Battery (with eight 25-pounders), 54th EA Field Company, 58th EA Field Company, 2nd Zanzibar Field Ambulance, 5475 troops in all.
The brigade you missed was the British 16th Infantry Brigade, detached from 70th Division, but you were right about there being troops from the UK.
Well done. Over to you.
Rob

Re: The official AHF Allied & Neutral Armies quiz thread
Thank you, Rob. The term "Region" was a bit misleading for me as we rather say "Continent" in France!
So we have: Europe, Africa, Asia and Oceania (assuming Australia is a part of Oceania, which I shall not even begin to discuss here!).
New question: what is this weapon?

Re: The official AHF Allied & Neutral Armies quiz thread
An early anti-tank rifle, 20 mm.
Re: The official AHF Allied & Neutral Armies quiz thread
I am a bit puzzled by the lack of feedback .... I thought no question was to difficult for the followers of this quizz!
Clue: This weapon is Swedish .....

Another pic of this weapons appears somewhere in this Forum, in the hands of post WW II freedom fightes (or terrorists, depending on the stance one takes).
Re: The official AHF Allied & Neutral Armies quiz thread
Have to say 20 mm Pansarvärnsgevär modell 1942 just to hear more of that post-war photo.
