You are getting really warm! It is an experimental flamethrower tank, but has nothing to do with the PTO. The picture has more than enough clues as to the origin. Look at it again.

Maybe a Sherman Salamander. An experimental British flamethrower version of the Sherman ; the backgound in the pic suggests an European industrial country. All this fits rather well with the clues already given (but are really salamanders snakes ?)

Salamander (orig. from Persian: sām, "fire", and andarūn, "within") is the common name for a group of approximately 500 species of amphibians

Foul, foul, foul. Ain't no snake....

What other reptile did it give its name to a Sherman flamethrower variant?

The imaged snake resembles a boa constrictor. Offhand I don't recall a Sherman carrying that name.

Looks more like a Diamondback Rattler to me Michael and that doesn't work either.

Maybe Sitz had better either bite us or swallow us and put us out of our misery. I have spent an hour on Google just looking at snakes, not tanks, planes or softskins

That was my first thought, but the markings are wrong for a rattler. Plus I couldn't see any rattles in Sitz's image. My second thought was a corn snake, but I couldn't imagine a tank being called the Corn Snake. Not even by the British.  So I looked up boas and among the several types there are some with markings that more or less match Sitz's. That doesn't seem to get us much closer to an answer though.

:? :(

The problem with the snake is that its varieties have many different markings.
So I am obliged to give yet another hint: +++++++++++++++++++++ (that mathematical symbol should do it).

The Plus (+) symbol means ADDITION, so the snake is an...

Exactly! From the book "Universal Tank". We can wait for you to post the next question, or you can leave it to whoever has a good one to ask (I'm going home now).
Cheers mates!

I am exhausted after looking at snake photos for so long and besides I am just now leaving for the shop.

The question is open to Michael or anyone else. If no one answers by the time I return I will post another question. About 9 hours from now.

Let's hope next time Sitz would not find vehicle named after some insect. (statistically speaking)
