with a number of air victories while his squadron was "stranded" on an island due to the ship's damage ...

hi, Rob,

very close !! in the same squadron, nearly the same number of successes, but this man survived the war, grew old and died in this century.

another week later, the last hint

he took part in attacks on Italian and German battleships and was stationed on two carriers both heavily damaged by Stukas.
