- commander of 5th Cavalry Division, then 2nd Guards Cavalry Corps

- commander of Cavalry Mechanized Group 'Pliyev' during the Battle of Debrecen (1944) as Lieut. Gen. (as part of 2nd Ukrainian Front); the unit took Nagyvárad/Oradea/Großwarein, Debrecen and Nyíregyháza but suffered heavy losses

- commander of Soviet Mongolian Cavalry Mechanized Group in 1945 during the Invasion of Manchuria

- commander of 13th Army (1947-9)

- commander of North Caucasus Military District (1958-68)

- promoted to Army General in 1962

- commander of Soviet forces in Cuba during the 1962 missile crisis

An eventful life indeed. And a nice moustache. Can anyone provide more biographical details or photos?

i have seen photos of other RKKA Generals with Hitler like moustaches. I think some were in the Glantz book dealing with the battle of Kharkov 1942.
