Turkey and Democracy(related to ww2)

Did any of you know that the %65 of population in turkey thought the germans will win the war and turkey should be ally with them, in the early 1940???
This is from a newspaper(Cumhuriyet) in Turkey. The %20 said they had to stay neutral, %15 said allies would win...
If Turkey was really democratic in that time they would be in war on the german side!!!
(I say 'they' but i'm a turk too)
May be Turkish army was not too strong but it had potential and turkey is a country like a bridge connecting asia, africa and africa..
Germans would be able to roll their panzer with full of petrol to asia, southern russia and north africa...
The result of the war would have been definitly changed...
What do you think?? Sometimes democracy can be dangerous :D :D
