Awarded the DSC as Anti Submarine officer aboard the frigate Rupert when in March 1945 he took part in the sinkings of U965 & U755 on the same day and 3 days later U1021, with U1001 being sunk the following month. His first "Kill" was as a junior officer aboard the Assiniboine (Affectionaly called "The Bones") when it helped sink U210 in August 1942.
