You are quite right about the aeroplane iffig.
The target(s) - there were in fact two, were subject to RAF photo-reconnaissance in March and April 1940 (but not by Wellesley).
It was two sea-ports, one of the Caspian - and one on The Black sea  , Varjag

Oh! I see: that was really a "What-if ..." question. So I would say Baku, Batumi and operation Pike .....
I was looking for somewhere near Gondar or Addis-Abeba!

YES iffig! Operation Pike earmarked RAF bombers, initially Wellesleys and Blenheims - for bombing Baku and
Batum from bases in Iraq
The French, were supposed to take part in the festivities from Syrian bases.....

A British Lockheed Hudson in civilian markings - G-AGAR, photographed Baku on March 30th and Batum on April 4th 1940.
On the second mission, Soviet fighters intercepted and the mission had to be aborted.

But then - the British with all other airforces in the world - greatly overestimated the effects of aerial bombing :D

Your question, Varjag

5 th hint: He was garroted. This mode of death sentence execution and the 18 th July 1936 should be a big help!

Well it does take a lot of hints (Les Glières, garrote and Spain I found actually useful) to get us Google Chromeless locked on a target that requires a rudimentary knowledge of French, Swiss Cantonese or other un-Anglican languages: Julio Nava Alonso?
