Helmet value and interest in buying?

#1

Post by glen6501 » 04 Nov 2019, 18:39

Hello,
Based on my extremely limited knowledge and doing some basic searches, I've been able to tell the following about this helmet.

* It is Heer - Army
* It is an M40 because it has punched vent holes and the edge is folded inward
* It has a F.W. Quist / Esslingen manufacturer mark
* The manufacturer code of Q is on the side of the helmet so it is most likely pre 1943.

I'm attaching a bunch of pictures. If anyone has any interest in purchasing it, I'm open to offers.

Glen6501,
I already valued the helmet shell (250 +/-)..... I'd be interested as a dealer for resale for $150.00 plus postage and insurance (?), Probably $20/30. (Usually will fit in a prepaid USP large box). Up to you.
Thanks for considering my offer.

Hi John,
I think I'm interested in the offer. I'm leaving today for a trip and won't be back until next Tuesday. If you're good, we can do the transaction and mailing after I get back.

I just wanted it for resale.... He accepted the offer but never followed up. Nothing I'll loose any sleep over, someone probably offered more.... there's very little honor anymore about jumping someone else's deal!

I still have the helmet and responded back via private message with my email address a while back. I didn't hear anything, so I assumed you were no longer interested. BTW I honor my deals and commitments.

Something must be wrong. I just checked an there were no PM's for me. I checked my sent and the PM I sent you a while back isn't there either. Not comfortable posting my contact info in public.

OK, the email that tells me I have a PM from you shows the content. I can see your address in it. I'll send it out after Christmas.

Why are you selling this helmet so cheaply?,its a $400-$500 helmet all day long with the decal intact like that, have you not been advised of its real value?

Munster65,
I been collecting since 1958 and dealing seriously since 1971. I offered a reasonable wholesale (dealer) price for this helmet which I would ask $300.00/350.00 for. It's a shell, without any leather or a strap. The decal is decent but the paint looks a little funky.... That may improve with a little TLC.

The rudest thing you can do is inferred with someone else's deal. Whether it's a fair offer of not is between the buyer and seller... most dealers pay 50/60% of what they'll sell it for.... and I try to sell stuff for a realistic price.
