As far as I know this is one of two of these that exist, but I wouldn't discount another one floating around.
I am an electronics guy, and this appears to be a lab grade precision resistor, possibly for use with a galvanometer. Showa date: 20. Month date:2.
Incredibly rare in any condition, but this one is a little damaged. It has what apoear to be shrapnel holes in the bottom, and there is a fine layer of crusted sand on the bottom. It's also missing 3 controls on the side, but I guarantee you won't see another one of these. The guy I bought it from said he had been searching for 30 years and never found anything about it.
The story I got was that it came off a submarine, but I cannot confirm.
It came from the collection of a Signal Corps member that had a penchant for sending things home instead of destroying them. I will get you all the details for provenance.
Dm me with your email if you want some more pictures of this piece. It is easily restorable, but I think the battle damage adds to the piece. I will discount the price if you run a museum or if it will be lent to a museum in any way.
