The book: Being a medical officer in WW2, the war diary of Dr Wilhelm Mauss offers an overview from Dr Mauss first as a volunteer in the Great War, and later on in the Heeresgeneralinspektion in Berlin where he oversaw the construction of the many military hospitals in Germany. Then as a medical commander in 20th Infantry Division during the French campaign, and Russia up to March 1943. He was then relocated to Italy where he served as medical commander in XIV. Panzer-Corps until imprisonment in 1945.

Awarded German Cross in silver for his service during the evacuation of Sicily
