Hi,

Is this meaning that the Steyr is not a Wehrmacht vehicle but a "privat" DRK vehicle.

Have a nice weekend.

Hi Bert,
Yes, that is right, it is from a civil organisation, not from a section of the military set-up. Here is a very battered Wehrmacht example.
And I hope you also enjoy the weekend, hopefully the weather will improve, we seem to be having nothing but wind and rain.
Regards,
Kerry.

Some time ago there was discussion of vehicles marked as both Heer/Organisation Todt (WH/OT). Here are a couple more:

Thanks Max,

When I'm correct this vehicle is a Opel Blitz 1to Lieferwagen ( dilivery Van) of the KDF. (Kraft durch Freude) Strength through Joy.
See the following link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strength_Through_Joy

This Blitz had a special conversion in to what I expect to be a radio vehicle.

With kind regards

Bert

Ps Looking at the pictures the location could be France

Interesting photos Max. My understanding of the KDF is that it was suspended with the outbreak of war in 1939. I would be interested in finding out how it was involved with the OT during the war years.

Hi Rich,

an interesting question. You are right it is an Opel Blitz 1 tonner. But I don´t think that this conversion is a radio vehicle, but a film showing vehicle with a motion-picture projector in the additional superstructure on the roof of this vehicle. Here two pics of this Opel vehicle, the first with the same superstructure, the second with old loudspeakers I think.
The KdF was also responsible for the entertainment of troops, but had not the best reputation among the soldiers. There was the saying instead of "Kraft durch Freude" (strength through joy) "Kotz durchs Fenster" (puke through the window).
B.t.w. You are right. It must be France. On the second pic You can see a part of the castle of Versailles.

Best regards

Bert

Hi George,
Thanks for posting that unusual photo. It looks like an Opel Blitz Ludewig Aero bus with a radiator cover. Below is a similar bus on the Eastern Front from Piet van Hees' fine site:

Opel Admiral with a spare wheel mounted on roof and some A-shaped holders (for frame antenna?), and a canvas roof too? Could it be Kfz.15 Umbau? Pity the soldier... the rear (and eventually typical "box") couldnt be seen.
