Hi Bert,
regarding #366:

here a new graffiti:
"Bombardment wing Cold Duck"
Unfortunately I don´t understand what it means.

"Kalte Ente" is in Germany a punch consisting of white wine and sparkling wine, with lemonpeel, vanilla, sugar and mint for flavouring. You cool it with ice cubes and serve it after dinner as an alternative to coffee or mocha.
So actually it was named "Kaltes Ende" (cold end). As a parody wordplay it became "Kalte Ente", also the carafe, from which it was poured out, lookes a litte bit like a duck.
In the 1930/1940 something similiar came up in the US, only the white wine was replaced by California red wine, the even named it "Cold Duck".
So that is the origin in German.

Pilots and alcohol...hmm....I can only speculate why they named it "Cold Duck Wing".

:milwink:

Best regards
Armin

Hi Armin,

thank You very much for the explanation of the "Kalte Ente" (Cold Duck). I have never heard about this drink, never mind I could taste it.
I can imagine that the members of a bombardment wing wanted to drink such a "Cold Duck". These members were famous for drinking much and tasty drinks.

Regards

Bert

Hi ilfil,

thank You very much for posting this pic with a special graffiti. I´m sorry, but I cannot understand the first sentence on the left: "Mutti, Dein Kind pompt.." - "Mum, Your child is ... ???
The sentence on the right side:
"Prost Brennabor - in Ratibor" - "Cheers Brennabor (a producer of strollers, bycicles and vehicles) in Ratibor (a Polish town in Silesia).

Here another graffiti: "Post von Mutti" - "Mail from Mum" (source: ebay).

Hi,

after a long break another graffiti, this time on a railway wagon:
"Parole ist Heimat (Eiderstrand)" - "Password is homeland (beach of the Eider) (the Eider is a river north of Hamburg)
"Warschau - Berlin?" - "Warsaw - Berlin?"
"Warum ist es am Rhein so schön" - "Why is it so beautiful on the Rhine" (the first verse of a well-known German song)
"Hummel - Hummel" - a typical form of address between people living in or around Hamburg.

Hi ilfil,

thank You very much for this special and interesting graffiti:
for a better understanding the translation of the middle and right graffiti:

"Todesbrigade" - "Death Brigade"

"Ruth - Herzerl!" - "Ruth - Sweetheart" (Herzerl is a Bavarian or Austrian word for sweetheart (little heart)
"Zwei(2)fle nie an meiner Treu' (3)!" - "Never doubt my loyalty!" (an interesting play on words and numbers)

Here a gingerbread heart with the word "Herzerl".

Best regards
