How many of these monsters were made, and were they effective over all as a tank destroyer? I ask that because I see so many of them either destroyed, out of service, or captured.

The US photo below from 1945 seems to show the same Jagdtiger as on the picture posted by Jabier on 23 June 2008 on page 1 of this thread, destroyed next to a creek.
