Hello Alanmccoubrey, a puzzling picture, but maybe the T-34 is a scout panzer of some sort- and they needed to bring in the big-boys , ( Dicker Max) to sort out the problem. The crew of the beute T-34 seem to be in talking in-front of their tank. Also the elevation of the gun on the Dicker Max looks as though its ready to creep up to the ridge and take a shot ? - just a thought.

Adrian, The point of my question is that Dicker Max was withdrawn fron the frontline in October 1941 and never returned, so how is it possible for it to be in a photogragh including a 1943 model T34 ? Is this a fake ?

Wow, both Sturer Emil s were lost at Stalingrad., so that puts this photo in the that area. Weather this is the one that was captured with 22 kills to its credit or not we will never know .I would have assumed the pic was at Kursk or after.

Adrian, I was surprised to read in Steven Zaloga's "Soviet Tanks" that while the T34 with that turret was the model 1943 it in fact started production in Spring 1942 ! And with this one having all steel wheels, as opposed to having them only on the three middle stations, it is an early production tank and so this could well be the summer /autumn of 1942 !

I wonder if this Panther is from I./Pz.Rgt.2 (16.Pz.Div)? I say that because of another photo that surfaced on the Achtung Panzer! Forum over at Wehrmacht-Awards.com

See: http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/ ... p?t=345841

It looks like the Panther with the thrown track as the same field applied camo pattern and the location, style, color and size of the tactical numbers look similar.

Yes, these Panthers are from 16. Panzer Division. There was a whole series of photos on Ebay. The emblem of 16. Panzer Division could be seen on several photos.

Regards, Holger.
