You're right, I didn't realize it was mounted to the body. So this vehicle is actually a 'Mauserwagen'.

Max, I'd think that the date is more likely 1943 when the Fallschirm Korps was being raised in France, this is only really because the Kettenkrad are still in Panzer Grey though.

Hi Alan,

Think you have to go even further back in time than 1943, these are very early Kettenkrad, the front tow hooks were located lower down the hull in late 1942. and they have the 8 spoke innter road wheels, changed to six spoke in late 1941 approx, also the insignia on the side locker is the black arrow in a white circle of the 7th Flieger Division, disbanded late 42 early 43 after service in Russia.

My guess would be after Crete in May 1941 but before going to Russia, a rest and recuperation time, it may not even be France.

I ddele

Hi Max, hi Alan , hi spannerman,

a little hint: the gun the Kettenkrad is towing, is a 10,5cm Leichtgeschütz 40 (sorry, I don´t know the word in English) and it was introduced in 1943 (source of this information: "Die deutschen Geschütze 1939 - 1945" by von Senger und Etterlin).

Hi Bert,
The LG40 was a 7,5cm recoilless gun, issued before, and used on, Crete. The 10,5cm gun was the LG42, as you say, of a 1943 vintage,

Bert, the English would be "Light Gun" but because that is far too generic a term and it is actually the recoilless gun we tend to either call it the 105 Recoilless or just use the German.
