Re: Interesting eBay pics
Hi again Bert,
(Note to self, engage brain before writing!)
LG40 was also the designation of the Krupp gun of 10,5 calibre. The LG42 was Rheinmetall's development of their own 7,5 LG40. A little confusing as both the Krupp 10,5 and the Rheinmettall 7,5 had the same designation.
Sorry for the mixed thinking,
Kerry.

Re: Interesting eBay pics
Hi,
Ok, according to my reference book the 10,5cm LG40 was introduced in late 1941, which matches the Kettenkrads in this photo.
The 10,5cm LG42 introduced in 1941-42 and the 10,5cm LG43 introduced in late 1943.
Ref Small Arms, Artilleryand Special Weapons of the Third Reich, Terry Gander and Peter Chamberlain. so are they wrong ? be good to know.
cheers leonard paul

Re: Interesting eBay pics
According to Waffen-Revue Nr. 45 the first four 10,5 cm LG 2 (Kp) [from March 1942 10,5 cm LG 40] were delivered in January 1941, and initial contract of 100 completed in April 1941 while just 66 from the first contract of 110 for 10,5 cm LG 2 (Rh) [from March 1942 10,5 cm LG 42] had been delivered by June 1941 (the first four in February 1941); No 10,5 cm LG 2 (Rh)s being accepted in 1941 after June.
No service acceptance of 10,5 cm LG 43 confirmed by Waffen-Revue Nr. 45: One purported 10,5 cm LG 43 photo deemed to depict a retouch of an experimental gun with barrel and horizontally sliding breech meant for LG 42/1 on old LG 42 carriage and another a mislabeled 15 cm LG 310.

Hello, Alan, spannermann, kerry, markus, and Bert.
Thanks all for your comments. I now know more than I ever hoped to know about the Leichtgeschütz.

Hi schwarzermei,
the truck is probably a Skoda type H/HD. Such trucks were also used by the Romanian army. I cannot say more, because I´m no expert in guns and uniforms. Here a pic with such a truck and the same gun I think (source of the pic: an expired ebay auction).
Regards
Bert

I think that the gun might be a Schneider 105mm M36 with wooden wheels, that would certainly fit with what the Romanians intended as their Corps/Army level artillery units to have as a tow/gun combination. That is not to say that I'd argue with anyone who found a different gun for this one .
