I find this pic somewhat poignant . . . people waiting for food with perhaps wistfulness. In fact, these field kitchen photos frequently communicate not only what the field kitchens are bringing--pleasure probably, and nourishment--but they also communicate what the soldiers and civilians are lacking--stability and home and meals which are more a comfortable routine rather than a dire necessity.

The hat is no doubt some traditional garb. I might check around to see. It looks like it comes out of a folk tale.
