I was only joking, of course
I also don't think all the air victories of 7./JG 54 were achieved with their office trailer :D

Hi Gents,
I have a question on those tank trailers carrying a fuel drum or 2 drums: were they a sort of field mods, based on commercial chassis or completely DIY, or were factory-made, some of them at least? Too many different chassis types are recognizable on pictures, that's why I'm confused a bit
Here is a talk on the subject in a Russian forum, regretfully for many here it is in Russian, but the pictures are interesting:

TIA.
Cheers!

Hi all,

What is the designation for the trailer Rommel used as a mobile HQ in North Africa?

Cheers, Dave

Hi Dave,
No designation, I'm afraid. Simply an office trailer, of Italian origin. In 1941 an office on Lancia 3Ro chassis was presented to Rommel by the Italians ant this trailer was a "bonus extension" to it :)

Hi Shamirnewell

"Here is the Lancia truck and trailer"

A letter written by Hans-Joachim Schraepler on 1 March 1941 states that

'...Gariboldi handed over to Rommel a brand new caravan with sofa, folding bed, table, two cabinets, toilet, shower, electric light and water pump.'

Would this fit with the Lancia trailer above?

A friend forwarded this photograph to me due to a shared interest in the Pavesi Tractor but my eye was caught by the home made trailers. I believe that they are the carriages of 10,5 cm leFH18/40 with wooden bodies added. I'm afraid that I cannot credit the source of the photograph other than to say "found on the net".

Hi Alan,
Probably you're right and the first trailer uses a carridge of 10,5cm leFH18/40 but I dare to think also Pak 40 must be considered.
However, the second DIY trailer looks more usual "cart" construction, using the solid tyre wheels of some gun(s) again. Regretfully the third trailer is too far and obscured to see details :(
Cheers!
