Re: ► Photothread: Bloody Hansa Lloyd/Borgwards
Thanks, Bert
In reality I think the Merkur I, II and III are very similar and are quite difficult to differentiate for me....

Hi Sturm 78,
You are right, it is not so easy to ID Hansa-Lloyd trucks.
AFAIK the type Merkur I (3to) was produced 1929 - 31,
the Merkur II (3 1/2 - 4to) was produced 1932/33,
and the type Merkur III (4to) was produced from 1934 - 1936.
Here the only drawings of a Merkur I and a Merkur II that I could find.
I think that only the Merkur III was ordered from 1934 to 1936 by the Wehrmacht for the motorization of the army.
Best regards
Bert

Hi Sturm 78,
a very interesting pic for me! Thanks a lot for posting!
I think like You that it is a 3-tonner, but I assume that it is not a Borgward, but a Hansa-Lloyd type (so-called) "3-Tonner Benzin" from the year 1938. So it would be the predecessor of the the Borgward type G.W.
Best regards

Thanks for your reply, Bert. What has led you to that conclusion?Bert wrote

Hi Sturm 78,
thank You very much for Your question, which has led me to a new and closer examination of my conclusion.
So I have to admit that I´was wrongIt is not a Hansa-Lloyd 3-Tonner, but an early version of the Borgward 3-Tonner.
My mistake was not to recognize, that the high distance bars are a field modification.
The vehicle on Your pic is a Pionierkraftwagen (engineer motor vehicle)
Here the points between the elder and newer version:
old: winker fixed more up, down a little bit expanded, new: fixed more down, all the winker with the same width
old: only one windscreen wiper on the left, new: two windscreen wipers
old: rims with two holes, new: rims with eight holes
old: a substructure of the platform with high girders, new: with small girders
old - new: a different order of the boxes under the platform.
Sorry, I don´t have a good pic of the newer version for comparing.
Best regards
