Re: Destroyed/Captured Panther tanks
How did a Panther get to be burned out in the middle of Paris? (In front of the Hotel Crillon, I think).

Adam, I wish I knew the story of that. I am sure their are members of similar forums in France that would know that story. Perhaps they will come forward. I will try to look on the net for more information.

Re: Destroyed/Captured Panther tanks
Hi Arthur,
The name of the town is Büsbach near Stolberg. Again it is a former Panther of Panzer-Abteilung 2105, the call-sign was 132.
Best regards
Timm

A Ausf G transformed into a bunker, plus another burning away.
1 more shot of the Büsbach Panther-same shot as before, just bigger.

Re: Destroyed/Captured Panther tanks
Do you know where this Panther was knocked out? i.e Western or Eastern Front.More photos. Interesting shot with the frontal armour penetrated.

Re: Destroyed/Captured Panther tanks
I downloaded this quite some time ago and did not record its internet origin-sorry.
I believe it is the eastern front in 1945 due to the Ausf G Mantlet. It would take a SU-122 or SU-85 to easily penetrate the frontal armour-but this is just a guess.

These are all frontal penetrations.

Re: Destroyed/Captured Panther tanks
The Panther in the first photo posted by Panther Arthur which he says is Panzer Lehr from Normandy, also appears in Belton Cooper's book "Death Traps", in the illustrations facing p.198; he says "An American M36 tank destroyer with a 90mm cannon penetrated the face plate from 100 yards". The photo is from another angle, but definitely the same vehicle.

Re: Destroyed/Captured Panther tanks
The uniforms in this photo look Soviet to me. I remember reading that this photo was taken in Czecholosvakia, and the penetration was caused by a 85mm round.2nd photo-the only caption for this was that it was south of Paris 1944 (referring to photos shown in message dated Sat Feb 05, 2011 12:50 am)
What about the third photo? the gaps in the armour do not look like penetrations. Maybe the metal was removed for analysis.

Re: Destroyed/Captured Panther tanks
It does look very brittle. Maybe a fault in the metal composition. I will forward another Panther picture tonight of the same effect happening. Like a chocolate easter egg kind of effect.

More photos.
A destroyed Panther turm, followed by of what I believe is a Panther in Arhnem. It appears to have moved in one of the shots.
