John.

Hi,

to the last questions about motorcycles. Sorry, that I didn´t answer earlier, but motorbikes are not my favourite interest.
Here what I think about the pics:
24th June and 23rd July: Sturm 78, I think, that You are totally right, BMW R 12 and NSU 501.
24th July: John, I think it is an Austrian Puch, maybe the type GS 350.
24th July: Alif, it is a Zündapp KS 750. Here a pic of a BMW R 75 for comparing (source of the pic: "Die BMW Kräder R 12 / R 75 im Zweiten Weltkrieg" by Janusz Piekalkiewicz).

Regards

Bert

Many thanks for the lead re Puch, Bert. I have had a look on the Internet, and the Puch S4 Military has the same routing of the exhaust as the model in my photograph.

The nearest bike has a very high-mounted exhaust. Any thoughts on ID please? (France, circa 1940.)

Re the bike with the high-mounted exhaust, I have found a photo to answer my own question: the bike is an NSU 251OSL.

Hi John,

it´s very difficult to ID the motorcycle on Your pic. The quality is very low. You are right, it is a NSU, but I don´t think that it is the type 251 OSL. For me it could be the type 351 OSL or 501 OSL.

Many thanks, Bert.

Yes, quality is indeed low - the image is a small part of a small photograph.

Here is an oddity, I think the cylinder lies horizontally between the tubes of the frame.

Possibly an Ariel Square 4 and two DKW NZ350s. I do not remember seeing a Squariel in British military use, but it has a very military look.

Hi Kerry

The Victoria KR6 had a horizontally opposed engine, and the front forks look similar to those of a Victoria but the frame does not.

Hi Clive,

Thank you for the reply. I have "Googled" the KR6, but, as you say, the frame is different, also the oil tank(?) is not above the cylinder and the engine in my photo appears to be lower in the frame. Was there another Viktoria model with a similar engine layout?

Thanks again,

Kerry.
