Re: ► Photothread: Graffiti on vehicles of the Wehrmacht
Hi Slava,
thank You for posting this interesting graffiti. Excuse me, please, for the delay. Here is the translation:
"Willst du ´nen richtigen Juden seh´n," - "If You want to see a real jew,"
"mußt du nach Ost-Galizien geh´n!" - "You must go to East-Galicia!"
"Den Osten haben wir befreit," - "We liberated the East,"
"für´n Westen stehen wir bereit." - "we are ready for the West."
Best regards
Bert

Hi,
today only a very small graffiti on a captured British truck:
"Sepp" - a popular form of the first name Josef. Maybe it is the first name of the driver, because he has a typical Bavarian hat on his head, a so-called "Sepplhut".
Regards

Hi,
here a new graffiti.
"Grüaß di nacha!" (in Bavarian dialect) - "Good day then!"
"Pusinko" (a Czech word) - "Sweatheart"
"Von Warschau nach ..." (München) - "From Warsaw to ..." (Munich)
The drawing at the end is the Church of Our Blessed Lady in Munich, also called "Frauenkirche".
Regards

Re: ► Photothread: Graffiti on vehicles of the Wehrmacht
I bet the cook of this unit in the civilian life was "Reichsbahn-angehörige".
IMHO both vehicles are captured, the kitchen carrier is most probably CMP cab 11 parked behind a Machinery Lorry (workshop truck) on Leyland Retriever chassis. Africa maybe?

Hi ilfile,
thank You very much for posting this interesting pic. Btw: Mitropa is the abbreviation of "Mitteleuropäische Schlaf- und Speisewagen Aktiengesellschaft" - "Central European sleeping car and restaurant car stock corporation". And You are right, the pic was taken in North Africa.
Here another graffiti with "Mitropa" and the slogan:
"Mutti, Mutti, sei auf Draht!" - "Mom, mom, be careful!"
"Wir brauchen bald ein frisches Bad." - "We need a fresh bath."
Best regards
Bert

Hi Max,
thank You very much for this pic. Interesting the text: "Greeting from the desert". But I cannot recognize any desert on this pic and I don´t think that this truck was used in the North African desert.
Best regards

Re: ► Photothread: Graffiti on vehicles of the Wehrmacht
Maybe "Gruss aus der Wüste" is a wordplay with "Gruss aus dem Westen" given all the vaguely Frenchie (or maybe Polish) memorabilia in the photo.

Re: ► Photothread: Graffiti on vehicles of the Wehrmacht
Hi Markus,
thanks for the reply. I don´t think, that it is a wordplay. But I agree with You, that it could be an allusion to France or Poland, maybe to the deserted areas of Poland.
Best regards

Hi,
here another graffiti according to the campaign in Poland:
"Polnische Kavallerie ist durchgebrochen" -
That´s a pun with the German word "durchgebrochen":
"Polish cavalry broke through" or "Polish cavalry is broken".
Regards
