► Photothread: Graffiti on vehicles of the Wehrmacht
Re: ► Photothread: Graffiti on vehicles of the Wehrmacht
Hi,
here a new graffiti with a declaration of love to Ruth:
in the center: "Todesbrigade" - "death brigade"
on the right: "Ruth - Herzerl! Zweifle nie an meiner Treu!" - "Ruth - Darling! Never doubt my faithfulness!"
Regards
Bert

Hi Max,
yes, it is. Perfect ID!
And here another graffiti:
"Mitropa Königsberg - Warschau"
Mitropa was a catering company which managed the sleeping and dining cars of the German railway (Deutsche Reichsbahn).
"Es war so schön!"
"Polen K.O. - England Nr. 2"
"Mazurka Ade!"
The Mazurka is a Polish folk dance.
Best regards
Bert

Oweh! or also Auweia! stood/stands for an exclamations of shock, surprise, regret and/or dismay, whatever...

Oha! is comparable, just as a small note.
As always, very interesting photos, thank you Herr Carius!

You are welcome George,
these german terms were/are somewhat "old fashioned", but also typical for such inspriptions in the war years.
The men had little to laugh about, temporary inscriptions on the vehicles were tolerated, usually with watercolor or chalk, these pictures are always very interesting, and almost always full of "gallows humor", (G: "Galgenhumor")...
