Hi,

here the next graffiti (source : an expired ebay auction) after the campaign in Poland I think. From the left to the right:
"Parole Heimat" - "Password home"
"Es war einmal, das kommt nicht wieder" - "That´s over, that will not come again"
"Leb wohl Maruschka" - "Good bye Marushka (the Polish pet name for Mary)"
"Ich komme!" - "I´m coming!"

Regards

Bert

Hi,

it´s possible, that this graffiti was already posted earlier in this forum. But it´s interesting I think. All three trucks are confiscated by the Wehrmacht for the occupation of the Sudetenland. They are coming from Hamburg (HH = Hansestadt Hamburg). On the back of the left and middle truck You can read: "Hummel, Hummel" - "Mors, Mors" and see the figure of a water-carrier. These four words are an old greeting in Hamburg and is coming from a man working as a water-carrier in the "old" Hamburg with the name Johann Bentz. He had the nickname "Hummel" and was living in Hamburg until he died 1854. When he was passing, the people mockingly said: "Hummel, Hummel" and he replied "Mors, Mors". In Hamburg the people call the bottom "Mors". Nowadays this greeting is no more in general use in Hamburg.
To the text on the left side of the right truck, written in Low German:
"We are coming from the Sudeten(land),
on Monday we want to eat with mum"

Hi,

not only the Germans had their graffiti, also the British. Here an example of a really creative graffiti on an Australian truck (source of the pic: "Images of War. With Rommel in the Desert" by David Mitchelhill-Green.

Hi Slava,

thank You very much for posting a very interesting pic again.
Here the translation of the graffiti:
"Rejoice at life,
the trip to Poland was not in vain.
Poland is defeated,
now we will go for Chamberlain´s throat."

Best regards

Bert

Hi,

here the next graffiti on a Mercedes truck after the campaign in Poland I think (source of the pic: an expired ebay auction):
"Polen ade!" - "Poland goodbye!"
Sorry, I cannot decipher all words on the left of the sideboard:
"Getränke" - "drinks"
The next words first in Polish, then in German:
"1a Piwo (Bier) - "1a beer"
"1a Wodka (Schnaps)" - "1a vodka (schnapps)"
"1a Papirossa (Zigarette)" - "1a cigarette"
"1a Curri - Curri" - "1a curry".
In the middle: "Mitropa Speisewagen" - "Mitropa restaurant car" (Mitropa was a catering company best known for managing restaurant and sleeping cars of the German railways)
Down: "Warschau - Braunschweig - Paris? - London" - Warsaw - Braunschweig (a German town about 160 km south of Hamburg) - Paris? - London.
