Hello! Why was it that almost all the photos have no descriptions? As a viewer, I cannot understand why so many tanks, APCs, gun tractors, trucks and jeeps that were always posted without any explanations. I presumed that almost all the photos were all taken in France 1940-44 before the D-Day landings? Only Hotchkiss, Renault, Somua, Char, Panhard, Unic etc. etc. Thanks!

Well, sometimes it's just impossible to give accurate info on all these aspects - especially, when the photo is not signed. So, all this info can be just the assumptions of those who research this topic. The only thing that can be stated for sure is the type of the vehicle.

Best regards, Aleks

Hi Markus,

thank You very much for posting this pic of a really rare vehicle of Laffly. In the book "L´automobile sous l´uniforme" by Francois Vauvillier I´ve found this vehicle, as I think. It is the type S 15 L, ordered by the French airforce in 1939. Vauvillier writes, that there were ordered only 30 of this telephone communication vehicle. I´ll post the pic out of the book.

Regards

Bert

Citroen cars, Citroen trucks, Citroen gun tractors and Citroen armored half-tracks? How many were in service in the 1940 French Army?

Hi Nebelwerfer,

to Your question I can only give the figures for the trucks (source: David Lehmann: 1939 - 1940 French Armament):
Citroen type 23: 12.500
Citroen type 45: about 4.000 .
