Billancourt bombraid beute B1

Post by Franzl Rider » 14 Nov 2005 09:37

Hello MJC,
Thanks for that extra pic of the Billancourt bombraid. I have found in a book of 1946 an aireal photograph of the site. A long line of Char B1 is visible. I'll try to get it scanned in the right format.

Has made bold to combine published before a photo of a factory with B-1. It is interesting, whether there is a right part of this panorama?

Hello Sander,

I don't know in which English language book is written Laffley but the error is spreading :) It is Laffly.

From the overlall general shape one could think it might be roughly similar to a Laffly V15T or a Latil M7T1 indeed ... but it is not such vehicle, far too many discrepancies. At the moment I must admit I really don't know but I am not even sure it is French. Could it be Belgian for example ?

Regards,

David

Indian 340 with sidecar

Post by Martinski » 08 Dec 2005 13:03

Hello, I am doing research on the batch of Indian Model 340 (a 1200 cc or 74 cui) Chief with sidecar delivered to the French Army in Spring 1940. They were used by the French Armed Forces during the Blitzkrieg in May '40.

Thereafter several of these motorcycles were used by the German Forces. There are pictures of these motorcycles with Heer (WH-), Luftwaffe (WL-) and Waffen-SS (SS-) license plates.

I did find a such motorcycle in Ukraine and exported it to Belgium for restoration. Now intensively studying an tracing its history. There seem to be some contradictions in the story of these motorcycles.

Can please anybody help with pictures and/or data and/or links.

Looking forward, many thanks,

Martinski
PS: during my job and travels in the CIS-countries (mainly Russia and Ukraine) I came across several Gnome-Rhone and Terrot motorcycles; also used "...under completely new management..."

Indian 340 motorcycle

Post by Martinski » 08 Dec 2005 13:30

Hoi Patrice,

Many thanks, got that already. Own also a library of the original manuals and spare parts lists, printed in the US. Also owning ever possible book about Indian or the French Armed Forces (with the exception of F. Vauvillier's "L'Automobile sous l'uniforme 1939-40").

But desperately looking out for pictures of these m/c with sidecar in French or German use.

I do also keep track of a register of their engine numbers (all were numbered CAV **** [each * equals a digit]). So also CAV- numbers are heartly welcomed.

Many thanks, Martinski

A friend searched his copy of the famous "l'automobile sous l'uniforme" and he told me it is a Latil KTL4 (page 208).
