Thanks for posting Bruce7506, the Tiger is a scary but beautiful machine.Luckly there were not sufficient numbers operational to the Germans in mid 44 or at any time.- From memory I would say , at the time of D-Day landings the Germans had something like 60 or 70 tigers serviceable for action for both fronts.
Cheers,
Adrain.

Over 600 were in Unit service on this date.

Adrian.

600 is a rounded rough calculation. 300 in Russia, 150 In Normandy and 100 in Italy. They were not all 'in service' but neither were great numbers lying around unused.

Thanks Michael Kenny, the exact amount of available tigers ready for action in early 44 is debatable, but I serisoly doubt that the German army had the resources to field tigers.- in there hundreds on any front after Kursk. My new fav. e-bay.

IT can be checked in the period documentation. There may have been some 'in repair' but this applied to all tanks of all nations. There were always a % of tanks undergoing some sort of repair.

They did. Even as late as 1945 the figures fluctuated between 3000-7000 tanks/Stug in service at any one time.
