Buildings are typical for Eastern Europe. I'm not sure but on backside of this photo is "Korowje". I've found one Korovye in Khmel'nyts'ka Oblast', Ukraine. As for vehicle origin - Aussies and Kiwis fighting in Greece and Crete left some equipment which was seen in early days of Barbarossa. The most known example are CMPs Umbau and I don't see any reason why Ute couldn't be one of such trophies.

I would like to add two more images from this eBay auction to keep it not forgotten. Now we know that photo was made in 1940 in Nybork, Denmark.

Hi Sturm:

Yes, it is a 1938 Chevrolet with locally built driver's cabin.
The cabin style could be Finnish.

In an effort to try to catch up on this very interesting subject, I am cross posting a picture here from 2011 in the Soft Skin Vehicle Photo Repository:

On the left on the picture below we see a Canadian Ford F15 4x2 with Cab no.11, many of which were captured in France, the Balkan and Africa in the early stages of the war.

This one is definitely an Umbauwagen as the rear cargo body seems to be replaced by one with higher sides, an open front or side access, possibly to let soldiers (dis)mount. The fixed cab roof was also replaced by an integral canvas cover over the driver's area plus the rear body. Trafficators were added and the headlights have been replaced by "civilian" units. The front bumper is missing. Wish we could see more of this truck....

Looks like an Aussie "Ute", (Australian 1/2 ton utility). I thought there had been some discussion regarding one of these in German hands recently on this thread but have gone back 20 pages and cannot find it. Was it in the vehicle identity thread? Anyhow "where did Jerry nick this one from?" Could it have come from Greece or Crete, as the surroundings do not look like a typical Arab village? I cannot think of anywhere else the Aussies faced the Germans except Greece and Crete outside of the North African desert.
I have found the earlier discussion http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 0#p1786246 The one in the vehilce ID thread is a 1 ton Ute, possibly a Battery Staff Wireless vehicle. The smaller one based on the 1940 Ford car could be a 12 cwt Ute.
