Very strange marking, indeed. Those were never used by RAF German colours roundel, perhaps?

Further, that roundel is not in the correct proportions to have been painted by an RAF man, perhaps the Germans were using it as an "enemy vehicle" for exercise purposes.

The troops being Luftwaffe I am guessing improvised airfield defense. Note the beute motorcycle with water cooled mg.
