Re: Vehicles with unit markings
Hi Luftflotte2
The insignia suggests a stylized " M " which may be the units home area of Munich. In the first photo there is a vehicle in the background which appears to have a civilian plate that begins with an "M" and may be some sort of generator truck. I'm just spitballin' a bit here it may also be a searchlight unit. Of course I could be all wrong.

Re: Vehicles with unit markings
I think it is a "IM" which is the German province of Saxony. I found more of the photo album but I don't think it helps.

Re: Vehicles with unit markings
I think you maybe right - I saw the line and thought it was part of the frame. And I take back my thought that it is a generator truck - I confused the PKW mirrors with being equipment in back of the vehicle. I should'nt do this stuff late at night...Luftflotte2 wrote:I think it is a "IM" which is the German province of Saxony. I found more of the photo album but I don't think it helps.

I would however speculate that this unit is somewhere in France during a change of position. If I interpret the messages on the back of the photos I believe I can make out the words Calais and Kuste and dates of Sept 11, 1940 and May 9, 1941. The September date being significant as this would be at the height of the Blitz.

I agree with that. Now to begin the process of finding what units were in those areas during those times.
Here is another I haven't seen before. A windmill, the number 4 and the continent of Africa.

Re: Photothread: Vehicles with unit markings
Thank you, gentlemen. BTW that was a typo, the truck is an AGR not an AR. My "G" key is giving me some trouble.

Re: Photothread: Vehicles with unit markings
Great photo Max. This Opel belonged to the Kraftwagen Transport Abteilung z.B.V 567.
"The Automobile Transport Department zbV 567 was set up on 25 December 1941 at the Military District XIII with four companies for larger transport tasks. The department was Army Troops in Russia and was renamed on August 10, 1942 in Automobile Transport Department 567th Simultaneously, the Department received a 5th and 26 April 1943, a 6th Company. The department in 1943 employed in the Army Group Center and in 1944 at the 4th Army. 1944, the department was disbanded except for the 5th and 6th Company. "
From Lexicon of the Wehrmacht - the google translation is a little shaky. Trying to decipher whats marked on the winshield.

Re: Photothread: Vehicles with unit markings
Hello Rich,
Thanks very much for that info. "Transport Abteilung" was about the extent of my expertise on those markings.
