I"m looking for information on this vehilce. Its based on the sdkfz 232 8 rad vehilce but has a turrent less structure on the top. It was used for radio and recon work. I just need dimensions of the top of the vehicle where the turret has been removed and replaced with a single structure. As i want to convert a tamya model of the sdkfz 232 to the sdkfz 263 8rad

Its the tamiya sdkfz 232 1/35th scale kit. There are conversions for it but i live in australia and these kits are near to impossible to get or will cost me 3 times more then the kit did. I was going to scratch build the conversion but just need all the dimensions of the conversion, which is the removal of the turret replaced with larger compartment shown in the pics above. i have pictures of it along with some pictures of models i found in the same scale but no technical drawings so far.
Re: Sd Kfz 263
Hello to all ; a little query...................
The Sd Kfz 263 (8x8).
It was developed from the Sd Kfz 231 and was provided with a fixed turret in order to accommodate up to 5 men (two of them as radio operators). The installation of radio equipment took much space, therefore the main gun was not mounted on it and only got a machine gun MG 34 with 750 rounds. It had an antenna frame fixed to the carcass and a telescopic mast.

How many of these vehicles had assigned a signal detachment in a motorized/ armored division?. TIA. Cheers. Raul M .

Re: SDKFZ 263
from one of the three pictures bought from ebay auction, I noticed that, contrary to what I always thought, the side escape hatch was like the SdKfz 234 series, that is one hatch. It seems that it was in two or three pieces. Can someone confirm this and give more details. Thanks
Re: SDKFZ 263
The center hatch has two doors.

In Raul's first "ebay" pic you can plainly see two hatches open on the side.curiousrommel wrote:from one of the three pictures bought from ebay auction, I noticed that, contrary to what I always thought, the side escape hatch was like the SdKfz 234 series, that is one hatch. Anyone have an idea what the objects could be that stick out from the vehicle(s) in back?

Re: SDKFZ 263
I think they might be Chimneys of field kitchens. From this perspective they appear behind the radio vehicles on the roadside.
