Mate,

Minor comment?

Why do you keep stuffing gear on the engine decks of your allied Tanks?

Sure there was at times gear stowed there but near the back, you never to cover the whole engine deck?

Thats how the engine breaths.

The fans under that deck suck air throw the vents for the engine to use.

Its exhusted to the rear in most cases or to the sides in others.

As crew we were taught to never cover completly the engine decks, while at times you could cover part of that deck never the amount of stuff you pack onto the Sherman Tanks?

We could at times sleep on the engine deck, which was great in cold weather, but could get very cold in the mornings as the metal cooled down.

Cheers

Mate,

Remember there are three things that keep a Tank going;

Air & (oil)
Water
Food (Fuel)

Food (fuel) - you cover up the refilling cover, any crewman will tell you how dirty these get with spilled fuel and dust on that spilled fuel.

water - engines love water (as they love fuel) and can never get enough so you have to keep that area clear because like the fuel you have to always fill these up.

Air - the huge fans suck into the engines through the Engine decks, that with the oil dip sticks you have to open the engine decks all the time (at lest once a day) to check the oil and to top up, always a problem on some tanks, but these covers are very heavy and not easy playing around this area.

Most of the crap you place there is short time use items, and never all over the engine deck and if so, only for short periods while at rest, never on operations.

Of cause some armies are less correct in there maintence (like the USSR tanks) and some officers and commanders don't keep control of there men and weapons?

Cheers

S.B
