#1

Post by Erich » 16 Apr 2002, 19:07

Gents :

Well I am getting out of my comfort zone so I will ask about this night fighter as to kit manufacturers

who makes the best and most detailed kit in 1/48th scale of the Ju 88 G-6 night fighter ? Now I am asking myself do I have space in my tiny office for one of these beauties on one of my book shelves......yes ......

Thanks guys !

Well, you know how new I am to this aircraft thing, so please bear with me. As I recall, Shanghai/Dragon marketed a JU-88 C-6 Zerstorer (kit 5536) which is no longer in production. Revell/Monogram is scheduled to release kit 5970 JU-88 C-6 Nachtejager. I mention the Shanghai/Dragon kit as I have heard a rumor that the Revell/Monogram kit is from the same mold but with a different nose containing the radar. I can't swear to this, it's only a rumor and we probably won't know for sure until the Revell/Monogram kit is released and the reviewers have at it! Very Best Regards, David :D :D :D

Well hey you are more with the program than me......I'd almost be afraid to open a tube of glue......do they still sell it in tubes ? Gosh I'll be a complete newbie if I start again.

I had heard a year or so ago that Dragon released a 1/48th scale job of this. Does this sound at all familiar ?

Hi Erich, I have to check when I get home, but I'm pretty certain I purchased a JU-88 G-7 Nachtejager by DML. I probably screwed the designation up, but it doesn't have the
belly compartment of the C-6. Cheers, David (P.S., I count my involvement in NightFighters and the Luftwaffe in general as strictly YOUR fault, by the way.) :D :D :D

Ah, another convert over to the sacred nocturnal gods !.......oh help !

Well heck I hope you are having a blast studying up on this and modelling your brains out.

Seriouly I am tying to pick up a very well detailed unit to model in hopes to honour a good night fighter pilot friend. Possibly Peter Spoden's a/c in NJG 6 or another chap(s) I know.

thanks for checking into it for me......any others ?

Hi Erich, see this Luftwaffe terminology has me all confused--ask me about a Tank and I'm a genius, ask me about an airplane and I'm an idiot.
I just checked my model closet. Sure enough sitting in there is a DML 1/48th Scale JU-88 G-6, kit number 5509! That's the good news. The bad news is that the kit is out of production, although there may still be some on the shelves as it was a $40.00 item. Aso, I know I've encountered it on ebay. But sure enough, it's a G-6! Very Best Regards, David (the slightly embarrassed  )

All the good stuff is out of production......rats ! Well maybe someone smart will re-release it as the other fine model kits that are coming of age. Have you opened that grand G-6 yet ?

bummed out a little :|

Hi Erich, yes I have opened it. Always get a little worried when the box says "Master Series"! No swaztikas, but the instructions have painting directions for two machines, one from 5/NJG4, 1945 Denmark, the other for 7/NJG2, 1945 Germany. If you really want the kit, I think I know a shop that may still have it, but I don't know if they do mail order. Cheers, David :D :D :D

Davido :

Can you send me a private with a scan of the markings if they are done as part of the instructions..... ? 8) Am intersted in what they have done for NJG 4 and NJG 2. Got a lot of personal info on NJG 2 so it would be kinda fun to cross reference what they have.

Gruß

Hi Erich, I don't have a working scanner, it would have to be a xerox by snail mail. Cheers, David :D :D :D
