Dambuster diorama

Post by Ernst-H » 09 Feb 2003 21:03

I wanted to share this diorama with you guys.

built it a few years ago

I have attached some other images to illustrate the use of the Dambuster modified Lancaster.

These lancasters where modified to carry the special purpose bomb designed by Dr Barnes Wallis. These bombs (looked like oildrums) where designed to skid over the watersurface , thus crossing the anti-torpede nets, and then sink to the bottom base of the damb to blow it up.
The targeted dams where: the Mohne, Eder and Ruhr (if my memory is correct)

The raid was very succesfull.

The original picture in the middle is from a trial run on a lake in Scotland

Ernst-H,
I like how you simulated the lights that were installed on the bomber to indicate the correct height for bombing. I never saw that done before.
Very interesting and well made model, keep up the good work.
