Rheinmetall 24cm Kanone K3 - 3D printed

Post by EPOCH3 » 03 Mar 2017 21:02

Hello - please find attached a few pictures of one of the current projects I have in work - the Rheinmetall 24cm K3. This is the smaller sister to the Rheinmetall 35.5cm M1 Haubitze I did awhile ago. I have always wanted to build a model of this subject however it just seemed too hard and too complicated - a bridge too far. I finally cleared my desk and dedicated some time to build it. For anyone interested, I spent about 70 hours of 3D modeling the various parts. I am now working on the support wagons which I will try and build as well. As mentioned, the K3 is a smaller version of the M1 and is based on a similar design concept - multi-load, quick assembly, large caliber and 360 degree traverse.

First batch of parts include the rear ground platform, support wheel, barrel, barrel carrier and breech assy.
I also include a few pictures of the 3D model for overall reference.

I will load additional pictures of parts as I receive them -

Happy modeling
Greg

a few more pictures

The wheeled support is shown inserted into the rails on the rear ground platform -
just slid on - very accurate fit.

Kind Regards

Greg,

any plans to print it in 72nd?
Perhaps Revell/Trumpeter companies would be interested in digital model for making their forms for plastic sprues?

Not at present but who knows.....

The upper and lower carriage halves are being printed now and should be done later this week - hopefully I can post some new pictures next week.

Thanks - have a few things to fix on these big parts but for the most part they turned out rather well. I am still working out some issues with the wheel assemblies but hopefully that will be done this week. I have finished two of the transport wagons (barrel wagon and platform wagon) with two to go. I will hopefully be able to show how the K3 went together when I am all finished...

Happy Modeling
Greg

Excellent!
I'm looking forward to seeing results of this project.
Any plans about printing Bruno railgun (>72nd scale)?

Did You consider using photo-etched parts as well?
For example for frame constructions?

Hi - just posting some new parts for the K3 -

Front platform and recuperator/recoil assy - note that the recoil assy was hollowed out extensively (to reduce cost)
