Hi - I decided to reprint a slightly refined version of the WWI Bruno truck assemblies with an older style Krupp wheel.

Re: 28 cm SKL/40 (E) Eisenbahngeschütz Bruno 3D printed
Hi, I decided to also model the ammunition wagon for my 28cm Bruno project in 1/35th scale. It will make a nice addition placed at the rear of the railway gun feeding it ammo.
For the wagon, which is a modified Ommk(u), I will need a bunch of rounds - so I made some. I did a test print of the cartridge case and shell to see how they would look - attached are a few pictures.
My source for the ammo model was an original copy of Dientsvorschiften D 435 1.
I also attached a preliminary pic of the ammo wagon model (WIP).

Re: 28 cm SKL/40 (E) Eisenbahngeschütz Bruno 3D printed
Hi - here are a few more pictures showing my work in progress for the modified high sided gondola/coal car Ommk(u) as used for the 28cm Bruno ammo wagon.
Not a lot of reference photos showing details of the wagon but I did figure out there were trolley tracks/rails on each sides of the interior and a platform where the ammo was affixed to the gun carriage hoist/holder for transitioning to the gun carriage.
The prototype shown is in 1/32nd scale. I did one Bruno in 1/32nd for a friend and one for myself in 1/35th scale. Once I get all the kinks worked out on the 1/32nd version, then I'll simply rescale and reprint in 1/35th scale for myself.
The wagon is rather large so it had to be sectioned up into three main parts - front, rear and a center piece. The roof has four
sections with one being movable.
More later and happy modeling

Re: 28 cm SKL/40 (E) Eisenbahngeschütz Bruno 3D printed
Hi - just a quick update on project "Bruno". I decided once I had the basic gun carriage and ammo car near complete, that I would do the whole train.
The basic support train consisted of the gun carriage pushed from the rear, two modified Ommk cars (ammo wagons), two yet to be determined box cars (see picture of cars #3 & #4) and a Prussian G5.2 Lok with tender. It took awhile to find adequate technical documents to begin the Locomotive design but info on the Tender was fairly handy. Photos show that two tender types were in common use with G5.2 support trains so I decided to go with the 3T12. Note, the Prussian G5.2 and 3T12 tender can also be modified to be the BR54 for a WWII version.
Attached:
A) A picture of the basic "Bruno" 28 cm SKL/40 train as captured by Australian Corps the 8th august 1918.
B) A snippet from a photo at NARA showing cars #3 & #4. If anyone has any information or knowledge of what type these two cars are, please let me know.
C) A quick work in progress rendering/screen capture of the lok and tender under construction.

Re: 28 cm SKL/40 (E) Eisenbahngeschütz Bruno 3D printed
The 3D model of the Tender was fairly easy to do although I had to figure out a few details which weren't immediately clear. The basic model is essentially two halves (upper and lower), a front piece done separately so that details could be optimized, three sets of standard journals, axles, wheels and brakes. Other than a few additional detail parts, the tender came together pretty easily.
Attached are a few line drawings of the CAD model and a few quick pictures of the printed model. Total cost printed on the Form 2 printer was about $48.

Re: 28 cm SKL/40 (E) Eisenbahngeschütz Bruno 3D printed
A couple of quick pictures of the basic Lok frame/chassis of the G5.2 as just printed. The parts have been separated from the supports and I have made the first clean up pass on them (lots of little blemishes to cut off and or sand out yet).
The photo shows the two main chassis halves (front and rear) with the journals and axles inserted. One pic shows some of the detail that I was able to achieve on the prints.
Cost of what's in the pictures was about $38. For anyone interested, the cost would have been $274 if I had printed these parts at Shapeways.
Regards

Re: 28 cm SKL/40 (E) Eisenbahngeschütz Bruno 3D printed
Hi - for anyone interested in 3D printing, curved and cylindrical parts are a good test of how well a 3D printer works. Last night I started on the Kessel/boiler parts for my G5.2 lok. I had to section it up into 4 parts given the build envelope of the Form2 printer. Here are a few pics of the nose section with the smoke stack. Even though I printed the part in the lowest layer resolution (.1um) I think the surfaces turned out very well.
Happy modeling & regards

Re: 28 cm SKL/40 (E) Eisenbahngeschütz Bruno 3D printed
Hi - printed the center section and boiler door of the Lok last night (Please see pictures).
Build time and resin/material cost:
A) Boiler Door took 2 Hrs 30 min to build using a total of 7.79ml of resin with supports (only 2.79ml w/o supports) with a material cost of approx. $1.16 each
B) Center section of Boiler took 5 Hrs 38 min to build using a total of 36.71ml of resin (15.98 w/o supports) with a material cost of approx. $5.47
Regards

Hi Greg,
it looks awesome
good to see progress in this project.
One of the cars seems to have antiaircraft emplacement on front side of the superstructure - I see heavy MG pointing into air.

Re: 28 cm SKL/40 (E) Eisenbahngeschütz Bruno 3D printed
Hi - just a few new quick pics of the Bruno Lok WIP...
Pictures show:
A) Main driven wheel set and front fenders.
B) Front door to boiler - I usually print parts with small details twice just in case one doesn't print or if I break it while cleaning it up. In the case of the boiler's front door, both turned out quite well (shown just after pulling from printer).
C) I put the hardest part off until last - the steam/regulation and control mechanisms. I didn't want to leave it blank although once assembled, it wont be seen unless you get up close and look inside. I could not find any useful interior data for the Fire/control room that was of an actual G5.2 Lok. I had only one sketch and did manage to find 2 or 3 photos showing some minor details of pipes and plumbing that were similar. In the end, I had to take a guess and the picture shows what I came up with. I first thought that I would have to print all the small parts separately because I didn't think it would print correctly as an integrated, single piece part. I was proven wrong and he integrated approach paid off. The whole thing took about 3.5 hours to print and saved me a lot of time.
D) Roof - I added some planked wood seams just to increase the texture of it.

Re: 28 cm SKL/40 (E) Eisenbahngeschütz Bruno 3D printed
Hello - I didn't like dealing with additional seams that were created with doing the end of the boiler separately. All parts printed well but there was a bit of a gap when I went to fit them together that I didn't want to fill (because the surfaces had rivet details that would have become obscured). I decided to try and print the boiler end sections as one integrated part - surprisingly, it turned out very well (see pic).
I added the roof, wheels and a few linkage parts to see whether it would fit the rails or if adjustments would be needed. The whole thing is starting to look pretty cool.
Regards and happy modeling !
