Schneider Sliding Mount for railway gun
Schneider Sliding Mount for railway gun
Hi - here are a few new parts built last night for my Schneider
Sliding Mount railway gun project (circa 1918). This first variant
will be the US 10 inch.
The carriage is built in basic four sections and the last section can be swapped
out to make the French Schneider Sliding Mount variant. I plan to do both the
older (WWI era) and the newer 1930s (WWII) railway trucks so that variants can
easily be made. Batignolles sliding mounts also coming.
The pictures show two prints: the one part is the largest single part I have made
thus far taking about 15 hours to print in medium resolution and the build with the
other three parts built together is the largest print by vol that I have done so far
taking 26 hours to print (224ml of material = something like $35-40 in resin).

Re: Schneider Sliding Mount for railway gun
Just want to say, I really enjoy your post.
Re: Schneider Sliding Mount for railway gun
Hi - just a quick composite pic of the anti-friction bearing assembly to hold the
trunnion ring. This is a small simple part but one that has quite a few angled
surfaces which would be hard to make in other ways. Supports have
been removed but the part is not yet cleaned up.
Material cost (1/35 scale) was about $1.60 each

Basic parts connected together and primer/surfacer coat applied (just to make any issues more visible).
A couple of joints need some gap filler and sanding -

Hi - here is a quick picture or two of the rear section of the 10" barrel for this project.
The barrel was too long to print as a single part so I had to print in sections.
To save some time, I just integrated the breach assy into the model and printed as a single part.
The pictures show the barrel section as it was printed along with how it breaks away from
what I call the "support tree". I also printed some anti friction bearing caps .
I am reprinting the front sections of the 28cm Bruno barrel along with the front section of the US 10" barrel
so I am including a screen capture of the print job just as reference information for anyone interested.
Total material cost for this print is approx. $8.85

Re: Schneider Sliding Mount for railway gun
This piece had a sighting quadrant that mounts to the right side anti-friction bearing assembly that then attaches to the actual gun sight.
I printed it as an experiment on a medium resolution setting to see if it would print at all. Here are the results. The pictures show it removed from supports. It's quite small but pretty detailed. I am going the try printing the actual sight next.

I thought it might be helpful to add a screen capture of the CAD model that I am printing just so you have something of a benchmark as to how well the printer is replicating the model. The view shows both he quadrant and sighting assemblies.

Here are the center and muzzle/front sections of the barrel along
with a dry fitting to the carriage to see what it looks like.
Next time, I will add rifling to the barrel and test whether that will
print or not.
