Your opinion on various kits..

#1

I want your real opinions on my search..
I am totally blind in one eye, and good but not great vision in other. So, I want to start building submarine models.. What I need are opinions on the following..

#1.Want true to scale with real boat.. Ive had kits where the dimensions are wacked out.
Is there a manufacture with a lineup of kits that overall are good?

#2 Am interested in WW2 Germany---Japan--USA and Cold war era USA and USSR boats.

#3 NOT all all interested in internals, just the overall out boat..
#4 your recommandation on what glue to use.. need to be ease of use, I would think a fine beaded tip application.
#5 Not interested in exact paint or decals, but maybe some general ideas on products that I can buy to enhance the various kits.

If p[ossible post links to good companies to buy such kite.. I have bought from MicroTools but they are very expensive, I dont wanna spend over 50.00 a kit, and really dont want to spend 20.00 a kit, but show me whats out there in company sites

Hi Mark! I would say Revell have the best selection but that’s Europe. Can’t find much on your continent.
Here’s link to german site which also includes some other producers.

Mark, what about building some so called "U-Boot-Dioramas"...

Example: https://www.panzer-bau.de/schiffsmodell ... t-u-boote/

In my younger years I started a lot of model sets from Revell, Tamiya, etc, never really finished all of them...

In later years I bought several handbuild sail ships, handbuild in Poland, for example a "Ostsee Kaperschiff", called a "Kraweelschiff" also.
Had to sell all the ship models in 2013, or give them away to friends... :?

Unfortunately not updated in a few years and new resin and plastic kits have come out since. Have to use steelnavy.com or modelwarships.com who are favorites particularly the former.

A submariner i see.
Zvezda 1/144 submarine series X - Sch class submarine (Sch = Schuka = Pike)
Excellent state of the art kit i highly reccomend it

Instructions:

ICM also produced german type IIb submarine in 2 versions 1939 and 1943 (modified conning tower). It was also repacked by Revell of germany. A solid kit a few minor issues but not much.

If you are thinking about buying MikroMir 1/144 series V Sch class boat i advise against it. It is one of those hard to build properly kits. My had all 4 hull parts warped as hell and hull has no interior struts (like Zvezda) so it is difficoult to get right. It now languishes on a shelf of doom waiting for me to gather a bit more courage. That being said it is an interesting boat with bow quite different from subsequent series of Sch subs with exception of series Vbis. All boats of this type served in soviet pacific fleet and didn't see action. Can be modified to series Vbis (mostly conning tower and forward gun platform) which saw service with Black sea, Baltic and North sea fleets. MikroMir kits are a bit of Jackill and Hyde some excellent some horrible. BTW boxart depicts series Vbis boat not series V
