There was a mention of Denmark... I once jokingly proposed to create a quadrigame of mini-mini-mini-mini-games, with two-hex maps. "Great for solitaire play!" I said... For Kiska, the US player would move his unit from the landing craft to the island, then roll on the sprained ankle table... if he got less than 2, he could call it a victory. In Denmark, the invasion would be the Germans attacking the Danes, with "Defender Eliminated" as the only result on the CRT. I also planned an expansion for the Denmark map to simulate its liberation: There would be a counter with a German unit on one side and a Danish partisan group on the other. The Danish player would say to the German player, "Look over there!" Once the German player was distracted, the Danish player would flip over the unit and declare victory, which was pretty much how it went down in 1945, from what I can gather. :D
I was thinking it was a joke from EUROPA-Magazine but since I also own about 30 Command magazines (and lot's more S&T, etc.) it well may be from there. Yes, me and my co-gamers had a good laugh on this proposals back then.

OK, how many die-hard old-school wargamers are on this forum?

Come off it Michael. We all know you began with "Crassus gets Wasted by the Parthians" in 40 BC, followed by the "Caesar at Marsilia" module. There is no need to make yourself appear younger.

All the best

I began with Victory Games' NATO back in 1986, I don't know if that counts as old? AH's Russian Front remains my favorite though.

cheers

I recall starting out with Victory Games' Gulf Strike sometime in the late 1980s - even though we also purchased the Aegean Strike expansion/add-on, I found it strangely sterile.

My gaming quickly deviated in more silly directions - Gunslinger, Junta (love that one) and, of course, various RPGs - RPG players were considered either dangerous heretics or anarchists, or retards, or all three, by hardcore board gamers back then...later on I deviated still further, into DBA. Which played remarkably well with Playmobil figures.

They said they'd look into the matter. That was Friday. I'll ask for an update in 2 days if I don't hear from them by then.

And Playmobil... I loved setting up that castle and using it and the Playmobil instead of lead miniatures... the construction workers got to be the orcs...
