Best Heydrich biography

There doesn't seem to be too many biographies of Heydrich.

Fest in his book The Face of the Third Reich contains a chapter on him.

Günther Deschners biography published in 1977 still has the lead.
Max Williams two-volume effort is also worth mentioning.
Die Generale der Waffen-SS und Polizei vol 2 by Zinke & Schultz for facts and interesting footnotes.

Allenstein, do you know where to get William's two volumes rather cheap? On Amazon they are rather expensive.

I've just ordered Garwarth's biography.

Sorry, I paid the price and bought them on Amazon.
I guess the price will be even higher if you find them on Ebay.

Vol 1 is around £30 and Vol 2 is around £150, a bit steep to say the least!

If you don't already have it, I'll soon pm you the Heydrich bio from my and Andreas Schulz's "Leaders of the SS & German Police, Volume 2" (Bender Publishing, 2015).

Best wishes,
~ Mike

If you can get Max Williams' books I would do so, they are really good and have the best pictures.
Personally, I am partial to Mario Dederichs' "The Face of Evil"---quite good, very focused, and it's short so it's a fast read that gives a lot of vital info.
There are quite a few older biographies, but history is always being updated, so I'm not sure how useful they would be for you. They are cheap on Amazon and ebay and can contain some good info. The only one I do NOT recommend is the one by Charles Whiting---errors everywhere.
If you're looking for more personal matters, Lina Heydrich (his wife) did an autobiography, but unfortunately it's only in German. Does have some good pictures, though. Dan Bar-On's book "Legacy of Silence" has a chapter with an interview from Reinhard Heydrich's nephew, Peter Thomas Heydrich (who I think also wrote an autobiography, but it's also only in German) that's quite interesting, and there's a book called "The Mirror Caught the Sun" by John Martin that has an interesting interview with Heider Heydrich, RH's second-born and only surviving son. Recommended!
Hope that helps!

P.S. If you don't mind me asking, Mr. Miller, I'd love to also get a pm of your Heydrich bio :)

With Mike's permission could anyone forward me his Heydrich information as I am sure this would be very informative.

Thanks.

Rodger Bender has both of max Williams books for sale, Vol.1 and 2 , Volume 2 is much more reasonably priced than those on sale via Amazon.

I concur with this. My copy of "The Mirror Caught The Sun" arrived yesterday personally from the author John Martin who was a historical adviser on the recent "Anthropoid" movie (the 2016 one) and at first glance, this will give me a lot of enjoyment when I settle down to read it this weekend.

It's large softback format, approximately 120 pages. Reviews have been very good.

Meticulous research including 2 interviews with Heider Heydrich (a major coup), families of one the parachutists and resistance members from Prague, and even a lady who worked on the Heydrich estate at Panenske Brezany throughout the occupation.

The author runs walkabout tours in Prague too.

A good combination for anyone wanting to learn more about Heydrich, the background and execution of Operation Anthropoid, the bloody aftermath and the various locations in Prague and surrounding areas connected to all of the above.

There's a newer one by Max Williams called "Heydrich - The Dark Shadow of the SS" which is widely available for around £30. It's excellent.

I have read the first 2 books as well but I don't own them. The second one "Enigma" was especially good.

There's yet another biography by an author called G. Graber but this is more of an entry level book and all the others listed by Annelie are far superior.
