Ranglisten Luftwaffe

Postby luckystrike78 » 22 Mar 2017 08:13

I am researching some persons and wondering if there are "Ranglisten der Offiziere der Luftwaffe" and where I can find them? I trying to find out if some Heer officers (who "dissapear" in 1936 and 1937) were transfered to Luftwaffe.

Thanks. I have already seen it but my 4 persones are not listed there. I would need the original Rangliste 1936 and 1937 to check it.

In 50 years of Luftwaffe research, the only Dienstaltersliste der Luftwaffe I have ever seen are the ones dated 1 August 1944 and 1 April 1945.

Ok, very sad. I assumed they existed like the Heer lists. Are there any lists known about Heer officers who were transfered into Luftwaffen service?

Not that I have seen. The Bundesarchiv-Militärarchiv in Freiburg im Breisgau has custody of all of the Luftwaffe personnel records now. Have you tried contacting them? All 155 tons (tonnes) of surviving Luftwaffenpersonalamt records were turned over to the Allies in May-June 1945 and taken to London. They were returned to Germany in the 1960's and nothing was withheld. Everything in Allied hands was returned.

Thanks. I will for sure do that. Its only a small group within a bigger amount of persons we try to research. 4 of them "dissapear" in 1936 and 1937 and I assume they were transfered into the new Luftwaffe. Its only an assumption but I have no other explanation since all of them were in their best age.

Here's a website with the Luftwaffe officers- all, not just the generals:

Sorry- I didn't see that someone else already posted that website- but it didn't do you any good anyway.
These four men- Are you talking about generals or field grade officers?

Do you know if they were Aktiv Offiziere - DAL A1 (career officers) or Offiziere d. Beurlaubtenstandes - DAL A2 u. A3 (Offz. d. Reserve, Kriegsoffiziere, usw.)?

all active officers. Leonhard, Niepmann and Dibbern already served in the Reichswehr. Kühns was a young panzer officer

Thanks -

Then I think I can say with some confidence, perhaps 90%, that if they had switched over from the Heer to the Luftwaffe in the ranks indicated, they would have shown up in the Luftwaffe personnel assignments, orders, Karteikarten, and records that I examined and used over a 20-year period. I am the author of Luftwaffe Officer Career Summaries located on the www.ww2.dk website. So your next step might be to look into the records of the Kriegsmarine and the Waffen-SS, but my guess is that you have already done so. Very strange. How could all 4 of them have disappeared?

Thanks. I didnt check W-SS and Kriegsmarine. That could be an explanation but I think its highly ulikely for 1936/37. I havent heard of Heer transfers to Kriegsmarine in these yearss yet. Well I will have to do further research. At least a guy named Niepmann pops up in NSKK and IG-Farben (Ausschwitz) later.

I would assume it is more probable that they either died or left the service, voluntarily or involuntarily.
