On your note Mike, I am waiting for the book Drama between Budapest and Vienna.

I'm waiting to see what content the author has on the Luftwaffe rescue attempts of the forces on the Ost Front in the Kurland book.......

I agree with Michael on this one. I'm going to get the book--there isn't a good book in English on Kurland--but not immediately. (P.S. I think JJF's pre-publication offer ends tonight or tomorrow 5/10). But I'm really waiting for the 3rd SS book. I want to see how good a treatment my least favorite division receives. Cheers, D :)

Hi Erich, it's a translation of a one volume work by Karl Ullrich, a Knight's Cross winner in the 3rd SS. Try this link:
http://www.jjfpub.mb.ca/products.htm
And don't mind me, it's the division I love to hate. I'm sure the ned of the book will have something like: "During its existence, the 3rd SS was responsible for the destruction of 1,500 enemy tanks, 1,500,000 enemy troops, 150, 000 trucks, 200, 000 enemy artillery pieces and took 15 prisoners."
Of course, I may just be cynical. Cheers, David

Thanks David for the insight....... :P ......though seriously I could only think of the massive volume with the camo cover that I did think was a photo album with minimal test........so this must be the text version that you mentioned and of course being translated for us inept German readers. I 'll be posting a book title soon this morn, here that may add the Kriegsmarine's view to the Kurland struggle. The book is a total steal and has some rare pics included. Now to find the thing.

Thanks Matt. I think your post brought me luck. UPS delivered my copy of "Last Laurels" a couple hours ago. Quick look is good, a large format hardcover, similar to early JJF stuff like "Tigers in the Mud". Oh yes, a People index, a Place Name index and a Unit Index. That's a good sign. I'll post more after I look at it--it does appear a trifle slim for the cost.
Cheers, David :D

.....Erich, both "Wie ein FELS im Meer" (The Totenkopf history) have the camo cover. There is volume I which is the photo volume and volume II wich is the text volume.
The photo album is excellent, which includes good detailed captions provided in english/german.The only down side of this volume is the paper quality. Its not the new glossy stlye but still nice to have. All the im Bild of SS divisions I have are just alike, including Prinz Eugen, Wking, HJ, LSSAH, Das Reich, Totenkopf and Dritte Nordland -(Btl.)They are all the same setup with dual language, and only a couple have a index.
BTW:Whats up with JJ Fed books not having a index :?
Oh well, its just a matter of making a home made version.

Michael :

thanks for the clarification about the two volumes. Must have missed the text on 3rd SS some time ago. Only remember seeing the bildband. Yes, I have LSSAH and Das Reich in the bildband series only. Though not a bildband per se the two volume 12th SS was a dandy in my estimation with some great maps buy Hubert Meyer.

Erich
Yes, HJ is a great work, also the maps are a wonderfull campanion to have as well. The only thing I didnt like about was the pics in the text volume were repeated in the photo volume, OH well! The text volume is my favorite divisional history.
